SHOSHANA BILLIK
1. Why are you a vegetarian?
I became a vegetarian at age 13 after doing a report on the use of the
animals in biomedical research. At that time, I also learned about the
factory farms and the horrible conditions in which the animals are kept on
them. I had my last hamburger at the World Expo in Vancouver in 1987 and have
been vegetarian ever since!
2. What do you like most about the
South Bay Vegetarian Society?
I like the social activities that the South Bay Vegetarian Society puts on. I
especially like the potluck dinners and the dinners out at various vegetarian
restaurants in the South Bay.
3. List your
activities/hobbies/interests in life.
In addition to hosting events for the South Bay Vegetarian Society and
helping to moderate the group listserv, I enjoy playing with computers;
studying the Russian language; and going hiking, bike riding, and dancing.

MICHAEL GOLDBERGER
1. Why are you a vegetarian?
I am a vegetarian due to the concept of non-violence, and I stick with it,
when my will power weakens, due to many positive ramifications, such as
improved health, appearance, ecology, friendliness toward animals, and being
part of a vegetarian club.
2. What do you like most about the South Bay Vegetarian Society?
The best part of SBVS to me is the social aspect.
3. List your
activities/hobbies/interests in life.
I like to go places and walk/look around, attend movies and theater
(especially free shows), read, play tennis and soccer, and eat!

DIANNE HALL
1. Why are you a vegetarian?
Basically for health reasons. I reacted to the hormones in meat so I
initially began my vegetarian journey by eliminating red meat. This
progressed to eliminating chicken and then fish. I now no longer like
the taste or smell of meat and am really enjoying the vegetarian diet.
2. What do you like most about the
South Bay Vegetarian Society?
The people. I have made some great friends that I would never have met
otherwise. I love going out for dinner and not having to explain that I
am vegetarian.
3.List your activities/hobbies/interests in life.
My passion right now is fire fighting. This may change after a summer of
fighting fires. I will keep you posted. Other things I enjoy are
working out, hiking, sailing, watching movies (especially cheap ones...),
learning, teaching, dancing and spending time with friends.

SARAH KISHLER
1. Why are you a vegetarian?
The less killing I have to do by living, the better.
2. What do you like most about the
South Bay Vegetarian Society?
I have a wonderful circle of
friends and acquaintances. Despite all the people here, it’s hard to form
relationships of any sort in the Silicon Valley, and especially to find other
people who share the rare value of vegetarianism.
3.List your activities/hobbies/interests in life.
Volunteering at the Wildlife Center of
Silicon Valley, human rights advocacy, literacy tutoring, theater
(acting/stage managing), writing, cats, nature, travel, reading, the
Internet, music, guitar, piano, singing, cooking, movies, and much more.

GLENN MIRACLE
1. Why are you a
vegetarian?
I’m vegetarian for health
reasons: originally I did it to clean out my system from the harmful effects of
college life. I have also always had a sense that eating meat was at best not
necessary and at worst disease-causing.
2. What do you like most about the
South Bay Vegetarian Society?
SBVS helps remind me that there
are plenty of other healthy and cool people who just prefer not to eat meat.
I continue to get new and better ideas about how to take care of myself from
the contacts I’ve made in the group, not the least of which is simply
socializing with like-minded people!
3.List your activities/hobbies/interests in life.
My main interests these days are independent politics, being in the
outdoors, and designing work around life instead of the other way around.
